To help you meet these challenges we aim to provide you with the latest information on SEN, provide tools to use in the classroom and provide links to relevant sites. 

SEN Code of Practice

SEN Code of Practice — The SEN Code of Practice provides practical advice to Local Authorities, maintained schools, early education settings and others on carrying out their statutory duties to identify, assess and make provision for children's special educational needs.

 

 

Disabled Children in Residential Placements - This report draws together information about disabled children in residential placements from social services, education and health, following recommendations in Valuing People (Department of Health 2001).  It also sets out recommendations for further work to find out more about the needs of these children and the outcomes of residential placements.

SEN ToolkitSEN Toolkit — The SEN Toolkit, mainly for schools and LAs, contains practical advice on how to implement the Code. It should be read in conjunction with the Code. Each section of the Toolkit has a number of pages designed to be copied and used as slides for training purposes.

 

 

Teaching/Learning support assistants

Training & Qualifications for TAsprovide vital support to teachers in the classroom. A proportion of these will provide support for children with special educational needs as well as assisting the class teacher with day to day support.  For further information on learning support assistants visit the teaching and support staff area of the site.

Management role & training of learning support assistants - This study, published in October 1999, set out to explore these issues through case studies of LA support services, mainstream and special schools, and a national survey of LSA training.
