Action for Sick Children is the UK's leading children's healthcare charity, specially formed to ensure that sick children always receive the highest standard of care possible.

ADDISS
ADDISS provides people-friendly information and resources about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder to anyone who needs assistance — parents, sufferers, teachers or health professionals.

Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) df
The Advisory Centre for Education is an independent advice centre for parents, offering information about state education in England and Wales for 5-16-year-olds. They offer free advice on many topics like exclusion from school, bullying, special educational needs and school admission appeals.

Afasic — overcoming speech impairments 
Afasic is the UK charity representing children and young adults with communication impairments, working for their inclusion in society and supporting their parents and carers. Afasic is also a recognised training provider for parents and professionals.

This is for people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities, so not all of it may apply to you.

Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH)
ASBAH is the national organisation providing information and advice about spina bifida and hydrocephalus to individuals, families and carers.

Barnardo's 
Barnardo's helps the most vulnerable children and young people transform their lives and fulfil their potential. Their website will tell you more about what they do and their work with children and young people as well as how you can help them to continue their work.
 
British Association for Teachers of the Deaf (BATOD) 
BATOD was formed in 1977 by the amalgamation of the National College of Teachers of the Deaf (NCTD) and the Society of Teachers of the Deaf (STD). BATOD is the only association representing the interests of teachers of hearing-impaired children and young people in the United Kingdom.

British Dyslexia Association (BDA)
The BDA is the voice of dyslexic people. Their vision is that of a dyslexia-friendly society that enables dyslexic people to reach their potential.

British Deaf Association 
The BDA is the UK's largest national organisation run by Deaf people, for Deaf people.  We represent the Deaf community, a community united by shared experiences, history and, above all, by a common language: British Sign Language.    

British Epilepsy Association 
Epilepsy Action is the working name for British Epilepsy Association.

Children's Trust Website 
Children's Trusts integrate local education, social care and some health services for children and young people. They incorporate an integrated commissioning strategy delivered through a wide range of providers that is designed to meet local evaluations of need.

Connexions Service
Connexions offers advice and information for 13-19-year-olds living in England.

Council for Disabled Children 
NCB promotes the interests and well-being of all children and young people across every aspect of their lives. They advocate the participation of children and young people in all matters affecting them and challenge disadvantage in childhood.

DC Educational Services

Deafness@birthto2 
Deafness @ birth to 2 is a training and information resource for professionals who work with deaf babies and their families.

Disability Rights Commission
The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) is an independent body established in April 2000 by Act of Parliament to stop discrimination and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people.

Down's Syndrome Association 
The only organisation in this country focusing solely on all aspects of living successfully with Down's syndrome.

The Down Syndrome Educational Trust online
is a registered charity, based in the UK, and a recognised leader in scientific research into the development and education of individuals with Down syndrome.

Dyslexia Institute  
The Dyslexia Institute (DI) is an educational charity for the assessment and teaching of people with dyslexia and for the training of specialist teachers. It has grown to become the only national dyslexia teaching organisation in the world.

Dyspraxia Foundation 
This UK charity exists to help people to understand and cope with dyspraxia. It's a resource for parents, teenagers and adults who have the condition, and for professionals who help them.

Early Intervention Feasibility Study
Mencap, the learning disability charity, is leading this feasibility study.  The Department for Education and Skills has commissioned this study as part of the new Special Educational Needs Strategy .  The work is funded until March 2005. 

Early Support
This website provides information, news and up-dates on Early Support (previously known as the Early Support Pilot Programme), a UK government initiative to improve services for disabled children under three and their families. The website promotes multi-agency working and is for anyone who works regularly with very young children and their families.

Education Protects 
The Education Protects programme is jointly funded by the Department of Health and the Department for Education and Skills.

English Federation of Disability Sport
This is the national body responsible for developing sport for disabled people in England.

Every Child Matters 
Every Child Matters sets out for consultation a framework for improving outcomes for all children and their families, to protect them, to promote their wellbeing and to support all children to develop their full potential.

Family Fund Trust 
The Family Fund helps families of disabled and seriously ill children under the age of 16. It gives grants and information related to the care of the child. The range of grants includes holidays, leisure, laundry equipment, driving lessons and lots more.

HemiHelp
We are a charity providing information and support to children and young people with hemiplegia (associated with cerebral palsy) and their families.  Our professional members consist of SENCOs, teachers, educational psychologists and others working with children with hemiplegia.  Publications on our website include dealing with emotional and behavioural difficulties,  visual perceptual problems and friendship and popularity in mainstream primary schools.  Other leaflets available from the office include:  The Student with Hemiplegia in Secondary Education and The Child with Hemiplegia in Primary Education.

Hyperactive Childrens Support Group (HACSG)
HACSG is a charity offering information about children with a hyperactivity problem.

I CAN (helping children communicate)
I CAN is a charity that helps children with speech and language difficulties across the UK. The charity works to create a society where their special needs are recognised, understood and met, so that they have the same opportunities in life as other children.

Inclusion 
A catalogue of resources to support individual learning needs for teaching professionals, parents, carers and learners. Resources include publications, software, equipment and on-line information.

Inclusive Science and SEN
These pages aim to facilitate the sharing of good practice and ideas relating science education for students with special educational needs. They display some of the findings from the research and networking that has been undertaken to support teachers. The information and resources presented here are evolving, with continued input and updating. Recently added is the on line version of the resources from the ISSEN CD-ROM.

Info Ispeek
Info Ispeek is the free information section of Ispeek, a company producing visual resources aiding people with autism to communicate. The information site is a resource for anyone involved with autism/ASD to use or share.

INPP
The Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP) specialises in the identification, assessment and remediation of underlying physical factors in children with reading and writing problems, Dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder.

IPSEA Tribunal Support Service 
IPSEA is a volunteer-based organisation and many of the volunteers providing telephone advice and support at Tribunals are themselves parents of children with special educational needs who have been helped by IPSEA in the past.

KIDS
KIDS is a national charity dedicated to helping children and young people with disabilities and special needs develop their skills and abilities and to realise their potential.

Leukaemia Care Society 
Leukaemia CARE, caring for sufferers of the leukaemias, Hodgkin's and other lymphomas, myelodysplasia, myeloproliferative disorders, Myeloma and aplastic anaemia.

MENCAP 
MENCAP works with people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.

Muscular Dystrophy Group of GB 
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is the only UK charity focusing on all muscular dystrophies and allied disorders.

National Association for the Education of Sick Children (NAESC)
NAESC ensures that all children and young people get the education they need when they are sick.

National Association of Special Educational Needs (NASEN)
NASEN is the leading organisation in the UK which aims to promote the education, training, advancement and development of all those with special educational needs.

National Autistic Society 
The site includes information about autism and Asperger syndrome, and about the support and services available in the UK for:

National Blind Children's Society
To enable blind and partially sighted children and young people to achieve their recreational and educational goals.

National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) 
NDCS is an organisation of parents, families and carers which exists to support parents in enabling their child to maximise their skills and abilities; and works to facilitate this process by every means possible.

National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) 
NICE was set up as a Special Health Authority for England and Wales and is part of the National Health Service (NHS). Its role is to provide patients, health professionals and the public with authoritative, robust and reliable guidance on current best practice.

National Library for the Blind 
NLB-online is the website of the National Library for the Blind providing a gateway to library and information services for visually impaired people.

Network 81
Network 81 is a national network of parents working towards properly resourced education for children with SEN.

Nystagmus Network
Nystagmus is an eye condition characterised by rapid, jerky eye movements. It is a symptom which should always be investigated by a specialist as it can be a result of other disorders.
Nystagmus Network is a UK-based self-help group set up in 1984, providing support for adults and children with nystagmus, their parents and teachers and fostering research into the condition.

OnlineInset
This site provides online training to those working with children and young people with special educational needs. It has been developed by the South Central Regional Inclusion Partnership (SCRIP), and all local authorities within the SCRIP region have unlimited free access to the courses on the site. Parents for Inclusion
Parents helping parents so their disabled children can learn, make friends and have a voice in ordinary schools and throughout life.

Parent Partnerships 
The National Parent Partnership Network (NPPN) is established under the aegis of the Council for Disabled Children to support the work of the parent partnership services. NPPN is funded by the DCSF.

Portland College
Portland College is a national specialist residential college for a wide range of people with physical disabilities, providing education and training for up to 300 students aged 16 upwards. 

Qualifications and Curriculum Authority — Learning Difficulties 
Planning, teaching and assessing the curriculum for pupils with learning difficulties.

Renfrewshire Education and Leisure Services Additional Support Needs Forum
A forum to encourage the exchange of information between parents of children who need additional support in the short or long term because of bullying, behavioural or learning difficulties, deaf or blindness, bereavement, school attendance issues or being gifted children.

Reveal 
This website brings together information about services and resources for visually impaired people from organisations across the United Kingdom.

Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) 
RNIB is the UK's leading charity offering information, support and advice to over two million people with sight problems.

Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) 
RNID is the largest charity representing the 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK. As a membership charity it aims to achieve a radically better quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing people.

SchoolNet Global
Half a million children around the world tell us about their lives, families and communities making this the world's biggest children's contributory website, promoting intercultural understanding and language learning.

SCOPE 
SCOPE is a disability organisation in England and Wales. It focuses on people with cerebral palsy.

Semantic Pragmatic Disorder Parents' Support Page
Semantic Pragmatic Disorder is a language communication disorder which is commonly found in children on the Autistic Spectrum.

SENSE 
Sense is a national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind. They provide specialist information, advice and services to deafblind people, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them. They also support people who have sensory impairments with additional disabilities.

SEN and Disability Tribunal
Parents whose children have special educational needs can appeal to the Special Educational Needs & Disability Tribunal against decisions made by local education authorities (LEAs) in England and Wales about their children's education.

SEN Consultancy Project Cutting Red Tape & Bureaucracy
Special Educational Needs (SEN) Consultancy Project — Cutting Red Tape and Bureaucracy is a new project being conducted by the Cabinet Office's Public Sector Team (PST) and the Department for Education and Skills.

Talking Point
Talking Point is your first stop on the internet for information about speech, language and communication difficulties in children. Talking Point was developed by I CAN, RCSLT and Afasic and is supported by BT and additionally by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales.
