London Learning through ICT

The London Learning through ICT project is a partnership between London Grid for Learning (LGfL — representing the London LEAs), the London Challenge and the DfES' ICT in Schools Division.

downloadLondon Learning through ICT: Action Plan

The project aims to develop an integrated ICT in Schools strategy for London that can be agreed by all London Boroughs. It aims to get the balance right between pan-London collaboration (e.g. where it may create economies of scale and facilitate the sharing of expertise, resources and data) and local ownership, accountability and decision making.

The strategy will aim to make London the leading city in the world for the application of ICT in teaching and learning in schools.

The project has involved visits to all LEAs in London and over 120 schools drawn from all sectors. The visits are informing development of the ICT strategy for London that builds on a route map for the way ahead that was published in January. The aim is to develop a strategy and plan of action that can be taken forward across London by April 2005.

Interactive whiteboards and training

The London Challenge provided £15 million capital funding in 2004 to enable every London secondary school to equip every classroom in at least one core subject with an interactive whiteboard.

  • An evaluation of the impact IWBs have in schools will take place from autumn 2004.

Accompanying this, London's 19 City Learning Centres are working together to offer pedagogical training using interactive whiteboards for all core subject teachers in London. See a list of courses available in your area.

Staff in non-EiC boroughs may access training in a CLC in a neighbouring borough.
