Laptops for Teachers

What is it?
A joint Departmental and Becta initiative to provide teachers with laptop computers for use at home and school.

How can it help?  By increasing teachers' permanent access to computers, laptops provide a flexible way of using personal computers both at school and at home.

Funding

From 2006-07 there are new school funding arrangements. The capital element of Grant 31a is now merged with Devolved Formula Capital providing schools with one single source of devolved, formula-based capital funding for ICT equipment, buildings and grounds. In addition, from April 2004, schools have been able to use Devolved Formula Capital funding to purchase ICT infrastructure and equipment, including interactive whiteboards.

Details of these Grants and how to make the most effective use of the funding can be found in 'Learning, Teaching and Managing with ICT: Funding Guidance for Schools and Local Authorites 2006-2007'.

Both schools and LAs can purchase laptops. The allocation of laptops to teachers is decided by the school.
