Hands on Support
What is it?
Hands on Support (HoS) enables schools to share and spread good practice in using ICT to enhance teaching and learning through a structured, locally driven programme, across all subjects and key stages. Funding for this programme is available through the School Development Grant.
The School Development Grant also covers infrastructure including Laptops for Teachers and interactive whiteboards. Schools and LAs are encouraged to work together to decide how best to spend the funding, based on their school's priorities. They should also consider where savings can be made, and/or value added, by working more collaboratively, such as pooling resources or taking advantage of LAs' bulk purchasing powers.
Whilst funding arrangements for 2006/07 have changed, spending on
professional development programmes such as Hands on Support is still important
if schools are to realise their investment in ICT. For further details
about 2006/07 funding arrangements, click here.
How can it help?
Skilled peers and professionals provide coaching and development for their
fellow practitioners in the effective use of ICT, directly relevant to the
subject or phase being taught, and can be classroom-based using the equipment
that practitioners are familiar with.
