PSHE (personal, social and health education)

PSHE encourages young people to take responsibility for their own health and well-being, teaches them how to develop a healthy lifestyle and addresses issues such as body change.

Below are useful weblinks and contact details which cover a range of topics within PSHE:

  • The QCA has programmes and resources for Key Stages 1-4 relating to the National Curriculum.
  • The DCSF and QCA Schemes of Work provides practical support for teachers across a range of subjects.
  • National Healthy Schools Standard support materials can be obtained from the Wired for Health site.
  • Active Kids Get Cooking supports healthy schools initiatives throughout the UK by demonstrating your commitment to food education, healthy eating and cooking. Active Kids Get Cooking is the new name for Taste of Success.
  • The Grab 5! action pack focuses on food and healthy eating in the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum, and contains a series of classroom activities and worksheets.
  • The NHS has developed the following lesson activities that are tied to the PSHE curriculum and designed to help 14— to 19-year-old learners consider a potential career with the NHS:
    Decisions, decisions: Learners discuss a number of 'A day in the life' scenarios before writing their own scenarios.
    Body talk: Learners analyse the use of body language in a short video.
    Talk it over: Learners write their own dialogue for a short video. 
    Healthy body, healthy mind?: Learners investigate body image issues among young people and write a press release based on their findings.
    It's your shout: Learners investigate body image issues among young people and present a radio chat show on the topic.
