Alcohol

Effective drug, alcohol and tobacco education can reduce or delay the take-up of some or all of these substances.  The involvement of parents in the development of a school drug policy promotes partnership and understanding of the issues and supports the management of a consistent preventative approach to drug-related issues.

ADFAM  offers information to families of drug and alcohol users, and the website has a database of local family support services.

Alcohol Concern works to reduce the incidence and costs of alcohol-related harm and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol-related problems. 

Alcohol Education Resource Directory is a directory of resources and contacts for teaching about alcohol, funded by the Portman Group (an organisation funded by the UK's leading drinks producers).

National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA) provides information, advice and support to children of alcoholics through its free, confidential helpline. 

Think About Drink (NHS site): informative site about alcohol aimed at young people. 

The Drinkanddrugs.net website, run up by the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP), is a source of information for those who deal with alcohol and drug misuse in the course of their work. The FDAP's fortnightly, free magazine Drink and Drugs News is also available to download.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) have issued guidance on school-based interventions to prevent and reduce alcohol use among children and young people.
