Universal considerations

Below are some further checklists of factors to consider for any site you use to extend your school's ICT:

Inclusion

  • Access
  • Car parking
  • Toilets
  • Special ICT provision (software/hardware)
  • Non traditional learners
  • The 'hard to reach'
  • Non-threatening environments
  • Taking the learning to the learner
  • Refreshment facilities.

Security issues

  • Of people — adults, schoolchildren, younger children
  • Of your network — especially 'foreign' laptops
  • Of data
  • Email for all
  • Internet filtering
  • Of equipment
  • Insurance
  • Copyright, software licensing.

Staffing issues

  • School teachers - voluntary, possibly paid, time off in lieu
  • Other school staff
  • Volunteers — training, supplementing, mentoring
  • Mentors — rewarding and using key learners
  • Out-centres' existing staff — training, supplementing, mentoring.

As schools' experience of these issues develops, further guidance will be added to the site.

If you have a story to tell, about ICT extending your school's community value, that other schools might benefit from submit it here.
