Learning behaviour
A report by the Practitioners' Group on School Behaviour and Discipline
The Practitioners' Group on School Behaviour and
Discipline was established by Ministers in May 2005 to give independent advice
to the Government as to how behaviour in schools could be improved.
Learning Behaviour Principles and Practice — What
Works in Schools, published March 2006, forms
section two of Learning Behaviour by
the Practitioners' Group on school behaviour and discipline. The
report is available to order and download.
The report will be of interest to all those who play a role in improving behaviour in schools, such as:
-
Teachers
-
Parents
-
Governors
-
Local authorities
The Group identifies aspects of practice that create the right conditions
for learning good behaviour. It also offers practical examples as to how this
can be achieved. These include examples of effective school-leadership,
pupil-support systems and liaison with parents and outside agencies.
Additionally, the Group offers recommendations to Government policy makers as
to what can be done to improve behaviour and discipline in schools. In the ten
policy chapters, the Group makes 84 recommendations on the following
issues:
- Implementing existing policies
-
Spreading good practice
-
Training
-
Diet, sport and the wider curriculum
-
Exclusions and alternative provision
-
Schools working in collaboration
-
Parents
-
Support and guidance
-
School-building design
-
