Safer School Partnerships

As part of the package of measures to tackle street crime and improve behaviour in schools, police officers were based in selected schools in areas with high levels of street crime. This initiative is known as Safer School Partnerships.

Due to the popularity of Safer School Partnerships and evidence that police forces are establishing Safer School Partnerships outside the original targeted areas, the DfES in partnership with the Home Office, Youth Justice Board and Association of Chief Police Officers jointly produced the Safer School Partnerships — mainstreaming guidance for areas and schools who wish to take this route.

The guidance was launched by Beverley Hughes, the Children, Young People and Families' Minister, and Hazel Blears, the Home Office Minister of State for Crime, Security and Communities on Tuesday 21 March 2006.

The guidance can be viewed and downloaded on the Every Child Matters website.
