Reward systems: Case studies

Some schools have found reward systems for good attendance are a good way of combating persistent absence, as these case studies demonstrate.

  • Falmer High Secondary School (2001)
The school implemented a number of strategies to promote attendance and reduce truancy. They included a Friday quiz at registration, with prizes, and a termly prize draw for all pupils with 100 per cent attendance.
  • Birley Spa Primary School (2003)
A novel approach to improving attendance at a Sheffield school created enthusiasm for 100 per cent attendance amongst pupils.
