Search tips
The TeacherNet search has been improved to help you find the information you want faster. Just type a few words or phrases into the search box. Try to use unusual words you think might be found in the content you are looking for but that would not appear in too many other places.
For example, you’re looking for pay and
conditions. If you enter pay and conditions into the search box,
TeacherNet will find documents containing as many of these words and phrases as
possible, ranked so that the pages most relevant are presented first.
Tip 1: identify phrases with quotation marks, and use commas to separate them.
For example, "special
educational needs", "advanced skills
teachers"
By entering a series of words with double quotation marks on either side,
you’re asking the search engine to look for those words in the exact
sequence in which you’ve typed them within the quotation marks. By
entering two or more sets of phrases separated by commas, the engine will only
bring up pages which feature all those exact phrases.
Tip 2: use UPPER CASE to indicate you want an exact match.
For example,
CITizenship
Search terms in lowercase will match words in any case. If you use upper-case
capitals, the search engine will only bring up words with matching upper-case
capitals. In this example CITizenship will only pick up instances
where the word appears with the first three letters capitalised.
Tip 3: searching for a particular format
TeacherNet searches web pages within the site by default. If you know that what you’re looking for is a document rather than a page of TeacherNet, do a search as normal, and in the results page select “TeacherNet downloads” from the drop-down box, then click on “View”. If your search within TeacherNet didn't give you the information you were looking for, you can search a selection of other schools-related sites by selecting “Other related sites” from the drop-down box and then clicking on “View”. Note that some documents are very large and can take a long time to download, so check their size, which is written below the results summary, before you click on the link to download them.
