Places
Find out about sports and fitness facilities in your area. Sport England and
Big Lottery Fund have invested £5.2 million creating Active Places, a
new, free online database of sports facilities in England.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
The DCSF works jointly with DCMS to deliver the PE, School Sport and Club Links
delivery priority. Visit the sport area of the website.
The Youth Sport Trust
(YST)
The Department works very closely in partnership with the YST on a number of
programmes, including zoneparcs, school sport coordinators and specialist
sports colleges. They independently offer numerous educational projects/schemes
including 'Girls in Sport' and TOPs. The YST has kindly provided some
of the images used on this site.
Sport England
Sport England's role is twofold. Primarily, it is responsible for
developing and maintaining the infrastructure of sport in England. Secondly, it
is responsible for distributing National Lottery funds. Sport England aims to
lead the development of sport in England by influencing and serving the public,
commercial and voluntary sectors. The DCSF and DCMS jointly work in partnership
with Sport England, which is responsible for the management of the SSCo
programme.
The Qualifications and
Curriculum Authority (QCA)
The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) maintains and develops the
school curriculum and associated assessments. It supports the implementation of
the PE, School Sport and Club Links delivery priority in a number of ways,
including via its PE and School Sport (PESS) project. The QCA PESS
website provides good-practice examples and practical tools to help
schools prioritise PE and sport within a broad and balanced curriculum.
Association for PE (afPE)
afPE is the physical education subject association for the UK, providing a
national standard for schoolteachers and lecturers of physical education.
Ofsted
A non-ministerial government department, responsible for improving
standards of achievement and quality of education through regular independent
inspection, public reporting and informed independent advice.
Child Protection in Sport Unit
The Child Protection in Sport Unit is a collaboration between the NSPCC and the
Sport Councils in England and Northern Ireland. The Unit coordinates and
supports the implementation of the Action Plan for Child Protection.
