Active Citizens in Schools (ACiS)

ContinYou and Changemakers have each launched a free ACiS toolkit that complements the existing ACiS Know How Pack, with support from the DCSF.

ACiS provides an innovative and exciting approach to school and community-based work. It is an award scheme that can help schools address the citizenship curriculum through real-life experiences for young people.

The ContinYou toolkit is a training resource for students in Key Stages 3 and 4, enabling young people themselves to become ACiS ambassadors within their schools, and encouraging others to become involved. With the support of teachers, this can help young people to develop essential communication, leadership and teamwork skills, empowering them to contribute to their social communities and feel valued.

The Changemakers toolkit, 'Active Citizens in Schools and Beyond', is designed for secondary schools and for people working with young people. It offers a variety of practical and creative ideas to promote active citizenship by young people. The toolkit aims to recognize and enhance learning which takes place beyond school: by understanding what schools and youth workers have to offer and working together, the benefits to all parties can be increased.

A free copy of each Schools ACiS Toolkit and of the Know How Pack can be ordered from DCSF Publications at the following address, quoting the appropriate reference:
