Careers education and guidance

Schools must provide curriculum-based careers education for pupils in Years 7 to 11.

Here you can download Careers Education and Guidance in England: A National Framework 11 to 19. This is the guidance document that the DCSF and the Connexions service have produced to help headteachers, senior managers and curriculum coordinators implement the requirements.

Careers education and middle schools
The 2004 changes mean that for the first time, careers education becomes part of the statutory curriculum in middle schools, so the DCSF has produced a document specifically to help them meet the new requirement. You can download this guidance for middle schools here; it should be read in conjunction with the National Framework mentioned above.

New higher-education student finance arrangements
Read about changes to the arrangements for grants, bursaries and loans to cover university tuition and maintenance costs, which will affect students in England only, and most of which will come into force in 2006.
