Alternatives to study leave

A new publication, Seeking alternatives to GCSE study leave: some case studies, was issued in November 2004.

It provides case studies from five schools describing approaches intended to raise achievement, increase motivation and improve revision in Years 9, 10 and 11.

The document features initiatives such as after-school or weekend study sessions and mentoring programmes. A common theme is the cancellation of study leave in favour of offering full timetables until the end of May.
