Places of Worship Sector Partnership
The first project is a successful bid from two of the RE subject associations (AREIAC and NATRE) to the TDA for a project which will be completed by summer 2008 and which involves teachers and advisers from nine London boroughs. The project combines three key areas: LOtC and 'compelling learning experiences'; improving assessment with specific reference to LOtC; and building teachers' capacity and confidence. Teachers from 18 schools will work together, with their advisers' support, to develop expert practice and then share their work with their local subject network groups through case studies and exemplification materials. These will be disseminated nationally, through RE publications and websites.
The second project is the formation of a writing and development group, representing a wide range of stakeholders, from Advanced Skills Teachers and lecturers in higher education to members of religious communities with specific expertise in education. In February they will begin the process of creating a travelling exhibition with an accompanying leaflet, showing some of the best examples of LOtC using places of worship and other relevant sites. This exhibition will be available for display at a range of conferences and courses throughout the country. It will be supported by a website, which will give further examples of good practice and supporting materials to inspire both those who use and those who provide LOtC experiences.
If you have an example of best practice or any other examples of interesting RE outside the classroom, you can email details to chair@areiac.org.uk.
