Excellence Hubs

The Government is proposing a set of HE-led partnerships, to be known as 'Excellence Hubs', in each of the nine English regions. These Hubs will provide non-residential summer and holiday schools for gifted and talented learners offering a diverse range of outreach opportunities, including:

  • summer activities
  • weekend events
  • online and blended-learning modules

Hubs are intended to contribute to HE institutions' expanding participation strategy by helping gifted and talented learners from disadvantaged backgrounds access HE courses that best suit them. They will also provide an infrastructure that enables institutions to provide challenges for gifted and talented students.

Free or subsidised places will be provided for gifted and talented learners from disadvantaged backgrounds. This includes those eligible for free school meals and those on the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth (NAGTY) 'Goal' programme. Each year, at least 50 per cent of places will be offered to learners who are members of NAGTY.
