Practical Support Pack for teaching professionals

What is the Practical Support Pack?

The Practical Support Pack is an online collection of high quality lesson content, lesson plans, multimedia resources and ICT support materials designed to help teachers develop their teaching practice ICT.

Step-by-step, it gives teaching professionals the opportunity to try out new ideas and new ways of teaching familiar topics in their subject. It also shows the role that ICT can play in achieving teaching and learning objectives. This practical approach to subject teaching also offers pupils different ways of learning. In addition, teachers can reflect back on the lesson and see how the ICT element has affected the teaching and the pupils' learning.

Topics are organised into modules and can be searched by subject and year. Each topic focuses on a particular aspect of the curriculum.

How can the Practical Support Pack help me?

  • Develop your confidence in using ICT - If you're new to teaching with ICT, using the resources will help develop your expertise and build your confidence in using ICT more effectively. Even if you are a more experienced ICT user, the materials will show you how to use ICT more strategically as a teaching tool.
  • Find new ways of teaching familiar topics - the Practical Support Pack offers opportunities for you to adopt fresh approaches to familiar material and revitalise your teaching.
  • Save time with ready made lesson plans - there are hundreds of teaching modules across secondary and primary subjects, each contains a detailed lesson plan and associated teaching materials which include multimedia resources.
  • Enhance your assessment skills - evaluation and reflection materials will help you assess how the learning and teaching objectives have been met, and how the lesson can be improved.
  • Share best practice - why not try using the materials with colleagues? For example, you could identify key priorities for your department or school's development, trial some approaches and then discuss your findings at future meetings.
  • Help develop support staff skills - teaching assistants and other key support staff can also benefit from using these materials; as well as supporting you in delivering the lesson using ICT, they can also develop their own ICT confidence.
  • Develop as teacher - enhancing your teaching skills and ICT expertise can help expand your own career potential.
