Evaluating the impact of Behaviour Support Plans
A Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) outlines an LEA's arrangements for the
education of children with behavioural difficulties. It ensures that these
arrangements are coherent, comprehensive and well understood to help schools
tackle poor behaviour and discipline problems.
This research involved a comparative analysis of original and revised BSPs from a sample of 50 LEAs, as well as case-study work in six of these LEAs.
Aims
The aims of the study were:
-
To examine whether the actions specified in the plans had been carried out.
-
To measure impact of the actions specified on student outcomes.
-
To measure the effectiveness of coordination between schools, LEAs and local agencies.
-
To identify examples of good practice.
-
To identify examples effective coordination between local agencies.
The report was carried out by the National Foundation for Educational Research
on behalf of the DfES.
The full report and the research brief are both available to download.
TeacherNet's A-Z of School Leadership section also provides further information about Behaviour Support Plans.
