Modernisation Schools Capital Funding

Modernisation schools capital funding is allocated to a local authority (LA) to meet the capital needs of schools, and thereby helps in the raising of educational standards.  It forms part of an LA's single capital pot.

Modernisation is allocated to LAs on a formula basis that takes into account both building need and pupil numbers. It can be joined up with any other resource available to the LA which can be spent on capital, and is used in accordance with each LA's asset management plan.

The funding is generally allocated as a mixture of grant and supported borrowing, with the split being determined at the beginning of each three year spending review period.  Allocations are, are far as possible, fixed for the three year spending review period so that LAs can plan ahead.

Detailed guidance about the Modernisation and basic needs can be downloaded here.

LA allocations for 2006-07 and 2007-08 were confirmed and updated in December 2005 and the latest information is available to download here. Support guidance and information on LA allocations can be downloaded here
