BSF projects now in progress
The first step in delivering Building Schools for the Future (BSF) involved
selecting Pathfinder authorities who would take the first steps and provide
valuable lessons for all subsequent projects. This was followed by an in-depth
consultation process with all interested parties to decide what shape the
schemes should take.
Wave 1 Pathfinder authorities are:
The first wave of projects in year one of the programme was announced at the official launch of BSF in February 2004.
The rest of the Wave 1 authorities are:

- South Tyneside and Gateshead
- Stoke-on-Trent
- Sunderland
- Waltham Forest
These first authorities have been developing their funding, educational visions and detailed physical school plans with the help of the Department for Children, Schools and Families, Partnerships for Schools and other partners. Several have now started official procurement processes. The following authorities were announced in waves 2 and 3 in November 2004.
