Excellent Teacher Scheme
This information and guidance about the Excellent Teacher Scheme (ETS) may be useful to:
- teachers considering applying for an Excellent Teacher (ET) post
- headteachers and governors thinking about creating an ET post and interested in the potential benefits for their school.
ETs will have a distinctive role in helping other teachers improve their effectiveness and will have a major impact on improving pupil attainment across the whole school. Schools can create ET posts at any time.
A teacher who has not already met the ET standards is restricted to applying for ET posts in their own school. They must submit a completed ET application form to their headteacher.
The proposal for the ETS came about as a result of the January 2004 Agreement between the Department for Children, Schools and Families, Employers Organisation and ATL, NAHT, NASUWT, PAT and SHA.
