Notice of changes to pay arrangements for unqualified and part-time teachers to be introduced from 1 September 2008

Following the School Teachers' Review Body (STRB) recommendations in its 16th and 17th (parts 1 and 2) reports, important changes to the pay arrangements for unqualified and part-time teachers have been introduced from 1 September 2008. Further information on the changes are available as follows:

  • Details of the new scale for unqualified teachers and the arrangements for assimilation of teachers from the current ten-point scale to the new six-point pay scale are set out in the annex to the 19 May letter from the Secretary of State to the statutory consultees.
  • The additional guidance relating to the new arrangements for calculating the pay and working time of part-time teachers has been removed for the time being as an error has been identified. Work is in hand to update the guidance and a revised version will be made available as soon as possible. This is also likely to necessitate the preparation of a revised pay order to amend the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2008. A further announcement will be made when information becomes available. The initial guidance can still be found here.
  • The Part-Time pay calculator in Excel format is available.

Notice of changes to short-notice teachers to be introduced during 2008/09

  • Initial guidance on new arrangements for identifying the holiday element of short-notice teachers' pay and circumstances when it should be paid separately.

Evidence from the Rewards and Incentives Group — September 2008

You can view the evidence submitted on 9 September 2008 by the Rewards and Incentives Group to the STRB here. This jointly agreed evidence covers special educational needs allowances, excellent teachers, roles and responsibilities and conditions of employment and rewarding emerging models of leadership.
