Guidance notes and frequently asked questions (FAQs)
-
Two sets of guidance have been produced for the new School Workforce Census annual collection in Autumn 2010:
Preparation and guidance for school-employed staff, Autumn 2010, version 1.2, July 2010
Preparation and guidance for centrally employed staff, Autumn 2010, version 1.2, July 2010
It is envisaged that the Guidance Notes for school-employed staff will be a useful handbook for schools themselves, if they are the providing the data. The Guidance Notes for centrally employed staff also includes some advice in Section 2 on the submission and approval of data for both school-employed and centrally employed staff.

Subject Codes for Qualifications
Schools and LAs may find it helpful to use this to identify the appropriate Subject Code(s) that should be recorded and returned for qualifications. As a minimum software systems should allow schools and LAs to record the Subject Codes highlighted in yellow. However, if their systems allow and they wish to record the codes at a more detailed level, schools and LAs can use the more detailed JACS codes shown (those not highlighted in yellow) in the spreadsheets. If the subject for a particular qualification does not appear in these spreadsheets, then schools/LAs should leave the Subject Code blank for that qualification.
