The role of the governing body

The governing body will need to ensure that the school has a detailed school-security policy, possibly as part of the health and safety policy.

The policy may need to include such things as:

How the governors exercise their responsibilities (for example, whether there is a sub-committee or an individual governor with specific responsibility for security)
Arrangements for consulting and informing all staff about security
Financial, physical and human resourcing in the event of a security incident
Arrangements for monitoring and reviewing the policy, including the frequency and form of reports from the head teacher
The nature of governors' statutory annual reports to parents on security
