Sport Relief returns on Saturday 10 July and, inspired by the 50th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister breaking the four-minute barrier, the campaign is centred around the Mile.

Venues up and down the country will host the Fitness First Sport Relief Mile with some of the most famous faces from the world of sport and entertainment lining up alongside the public.

Getting your school involved

Sport Relief is encouraging all teachers and pupils around the country to take part. Going the Extra Mile isn't just about running miles — it's about having fun, getting active, taking a challenge and helping young people who live incredibly hard lives.

Eastenders actors holding School kitsTo support the campaign, the DfES has helped to produce the Sport Relief School Kit, 33,000 of which have been sent out to every school in the country.

These kits come in primary and secondary versions and come with a range of great ideas for activities including:

  • New PE teaching ideas written by the QCA
Physical and mental challenges to get pupils active.

  • Original Citizenship and PSHE lessons
Lessons exploring child labour and conflict reduction. Learn about the extraordinary people Sport Relief helps and become active citizens in the process.

  • Fundraising ideas
Ideas for getting active with sport, dance, swimming at school, lunchtimes and sports days.

  • BBC Sport Academy journalist competition
This fantastic competition will give a pupil the chance to interview a famous sports star and have their story published on the Sport Academy website.

  • Star-studded video made by CBBC

Jonathan Smith, Education Manager at Comic Relief says, 'The school kit aims to give teachers all they need to get students out and active this summer as well as learning an awful lot. The kit uses real-life stories of young people from the projects we support to show UK pupils where their money goes, help them understand the issues behind it all and start them on a journey of looking at conflict in their own lives and communities.'

The Sport Relief – at school website provides more information on assembly plans, teaching resources, email updates and campaign news.
