Free school meals
Free School Meals Pilots
Local authorities and Primary Care Trusts in deprived areas have been invited
to express an interest in taking part in a two year pilot which will look at
the health and educational benefits of free school meals. Three local
authorities will take part in the pilot. Two will trial free school
lunches to all primary school children while in the third area the eligibility
rules will be extended. Volunteers are also being sought to act as control
groups where current free school meal eligibility will be maintained.
