design and technology accomodation in secondary schools

This website is a practical resource designed to help with the process of creating or adapting accommodation for Design and Technology teaching in secondary schools.

It has been put together by the Department for Education and Skills Schools Building and Design Unit, and will complement a more detailed building bulletin on Design and Technology accommodation, available later in 2003.

This site covers key design issues including:

  • Planning an individual room layout
  • Furniture
  • Health and safety

In addition, case studies describe the experiences of real schools, and highlight the advantages and disadvantages of their chosen schemes.

We will be updating and adding to the site in the future. Coming up, too, is a new planning tool which can be used to design your own room layout.

If you have any comments or queries, or would like to put your own school forward as a case study please contact us.
