Inspired by the idea that film can broaden the mind in extraordinary and unexpected ways, FILMCLUB, an after-school club giving children free weekly access to thousands of classic and popular films, is to be launched across the UK, building to 7000 films over the next three years.
Background information:
WHAT IS FILMCLUB?
FILMCLUB is a new service run by movie-lovers to introduce children to
the wonder of films. It aims to help teachers and pupils form clubs in schools
to show fantastic movies from every era and every corner of the world.
FILMCLUB bring as wide a range of great films to as many young people as
possible. That's why FILMCLUB is free to most schools. Movies can be
ordered from the website and they are then delivered directly to the
schools.
A huge choice of movies are available. From fairy-tales for younger
Filmclubbers to the most challenging stories for our older audience; from
silent masterpieces to the latest releases; the best in Bollywood to the
greatest of British; the French new wave to Japanese anime; Iranian thrillers
to South African dramas; to comedies from Latin America and classics from
Hollywood; with documentaries, experimental film and the occasional blockbuster
thrown in — thousands of titles are available and more are being added
all the time.
To get started teachers need to join FILMCLUB after which you will be invited to a
session where you will find out all about setting-up and running a film
club.
