The Department for Education and Skills' Aimhigher campaign encourages young people to think about the benefits and opportunities of higher education (HE); especially young people from families with no tradition of higher education.
The purpose of this website
The Get into Higher Education pack and website address two common barriers to young people getting into higher education:
- the perception that higher education is not for them;
- concerns about whether they - and their families - can afford it.
The materials on this site have been designed for you, to help your students decide which careers and further qualifications are right for them. The activities on the site can be used for years 12 and 13.
Adaptable and easy to use
Get into Higher Education has been designed to be as flexible as possible - we have included a mixture of group, individual and pair activities; some take less than ten minutes to complete, whilst others are more suitable for use in a workshop. It is up to you how you use the activities - you will know what is most appropriate for your classes - but we have tried to make it as easy as possible for you to find the right activities for your students. Take a look at How to use it for more detail.
The contents of this site can be used as a stand-alone resource in the classroom and can also be used to prepare for, or reinforce, an Aimhigher roadshow. The roadshows are another element of the Aimhigher campaign, and give students the chance to find out more about higher education from a facilitator with first-hand experience. For more information, speak to your Aimhigher Coordinator.
To help us continue to improve this resource we would really appreciate your feedback. You can send your views from the Contact Us section of the Teachernet website. We would like to hear your views, so please take a few minutes to complete the appropriate questionnaire.
